Founded, on 16 February 2005, with the objective of carrying out the humanistic, social and material-scientific analysis and
description of paleographic material in manuscripted, inscribed, and printed form, the İYTE Paleography and Preservation Group
takes inventory of and gathers such material starting out from the immeditae vicinity of the Institute and shall proceed from there in
a widening geographic circle. The Group aims at constituting material archives and data bases in order to preserve the historico-
cultural memory of Turkey and to facilitate research in the historical and philological sciences as well as the researching of the
nation’s trade, crafts, and industrial past with respect to its economic, technological, and other contexts. The Group equally aims at
conducting research and bringing together state-of-the-art information in the preservation and maintenance of paper, libraries, and
archives. It disseminates this information and the results of research in order to spread popular consciousness and awareness
concerning protection of paleographic materials in public and private possession.
